Background

To allow for the upcoming Dead Bullock Soak (DBS) mine site expansion, a section of the existing haul road was required to be realigned. This realignment also allowed the flattening of the road grade, improving mine site cycle times between the pit and the processing plant.

The haul road included bitumen sealing, line marking, and associated road furniture for the triple road trains.

Installation of electrical and service conduits along the length of the new road was also included in the scope to allow for future expansion.

Scope of Services

  • Construction of a new 2km mine site haul road
  • 202,000 tonnes of bulk and detailed earthworks shifted
  • 39 million litres of construction water imported
  • 230,000L of diesel used by construction plant

Challenges

The remote site location (560km from Alice Springs) presented many challenges throughout the project.

A great amount of upfront planning and contingency was implemented in order to minimise the impact of any downtime.

Free issued water restrictions from the client throughout the project required careful management to ensure that production rates could be maintained without affecting the project or the mine site operations.

Advantage

The project was completed safely and seamlessly with no recordable HSE incidents as well as 100% clearance of all works and compaction testing throughout the execution phase.
